December 2010 - Southern section of the Brighton Bypass, from East Derwent Highway to the Brighton Interchange, opened to traffic. C195 signage erected at Brighton.

Description:

C195 is a brand new route in southern Tasmania, running along Midland Hwy (soon to be decommissioned, and renamed Brighton Rd) through Brighton and Pontville. It replaces National Highway 1 along this section, which will be re-routed onto the Brighton Bypass once completed.

Currently, C195 signs exist at Brighton interchange and approaches, and at the junctions within the town of Brighton. However, until the bypass is fully opened, probably sometime in 2011, C195 is not properly commissioned and remains in a strange place between proposed and implemented. NH1 traffic still follows the (still current) Midland Hwy through Brighton.

C195 signs were first erected in conjunction with the opening of the first short section of the bypass, from East Derwent Highway to the Brighton interchange. However, the bypass has not yet been completed through to Pontville, so NH1 still passes through Brighton. For whatever reason, temporary signage was not erected so there is, for the moment, a confusing mix of signs for traffic trying to navigate its way along the current NH1 alignment.

The following photos show the C195 signage as currently erected (at May 2011) and the gallery will be updated once the bypass is opened completely.
