Introduced: 1980
Length: 5km
Northern Terminus: Kelso Rd (A7) & West Arm Rd (A7) & Yorktown Rd (C720), 6km north of Beaconsfield
Southern Terminus: West Tamar Highway (A7) & Yorktown Rd (C720), Beaconsfield
Route taken: Yorktown Rd
Focal Points: Beaconsfield, Greens Beach
Responsibility: Local Government
Route C720 is a short connecting route in northern Tasmania, providing a bypass of Beauty Point (through which the A7 passes via a convoluted 12km route) for through traffic between Beaconsfield and points further north. As Peter Renshaw puts it - C720 is the hypotenuse of the triangle.
Route C720 is fully sealed and constructed to a higher standard than the A7 between the two points. I suggest the importance of Beauty Point as the focal point of the West Tamar Highway is the principle reason for C720 not being numbered as the A7.

Just north of its split from the West Tamar Highway, C720 (Yorktown Rd) meets C715 (Holwell Rd). These fingerboard signs face northbound traffic and incorrectly show C720 to the right towards Beauty Point - they should show say C715. Source: Peter Renshaw, July 2007. |
