B53 is a 17km long east-west route across the northern Midlands, linking Poatina Main Rd (B51) with the Midland Highway (NH1). It forms part of the quickest route from Launceston to the Highlands Lakes and consequently carries significant tourist traffic. Whilst the route generally has a wide, sealed pavement, there are no line markings for most of its length.
