PACIFIC HIGHWAY
Section: Halfway Creek

Looking north along the upgraded section of highway at Halfway Creek. Nov 2005.

This 7km section encompasses the highway from the western side of the Dirty Creek Range to near the bridge over Halfway Creek at Wells Crossing.

Major work on this section of the highway has only been recent. In late 2002 (if I recall correctly) work commenced on the realignment and duplication of 3.4km of the highway from the western end of the Dirty Creek Range Deviation to Lemon Tree Road, as well as the construction of truck parking areas adjacent to an existing truck stop. This work was completed and opened to traffic in June 2004.

As part of the Woolgoolga-Wells Crossing project, which is currently in the route development phase, the aforementioned realignment at Halfway Creek may again be realigned. This would seem like a ridiculous waste of money, so I very much doubt that the option to realign the highway yet again at Halfway Creek will be selected as the preferred route.
