Route Overview:
State Route 14 was a major radial route to the northern beaches and was recognised as such when, in 1998, it was replaced with the Metroad 10 designation. Proclaimed in 1974, SR14 initially extended from Palm Beach south to the Pacific Hwy (then NR1) at Crows Nest Junction. In December 1992, NR1 was re-routed onto the Gore Hill and Warringah Freeways, meaning SR14 was extended north-west along Pacific Hwy to Atarmon.
Today there are no remnants of SR14, only Metroad 10 coverplates on many a direction sign south of Mona Vale. North of Mona Vale the limited signage there has blank coverplates as Barrenjoey Rd recieved no new route number. For information and photos of the Metroad 10 section, click HERE. North of Mona Vale, the 6-lane dual carriageway extends as far north as Newport, transforming into a narrow and winding 2-lane road all the way Palm Beach.
